TV On The Internet!

So you missed your favorite TV show because you were to busy doing that big project? Well I can say I have, but lucky for you, ABC.com, NBC.com, CBS.com and other popular channel stations are more than ever promoting you to watch your favorite TV shows on-line. It is a great way to catch up on lost episodes or to go back and start watching a series from the beginning. While watching TV shows on on-line not only is there little commercials, but the show is actually shorter now. Because they cut out the commercials and make the running time between the advertisements longer, normally a 1 hour show now is about 43 minutes long. It is a different alternative to for people that don't really have time to sit down and watch the 1 hour long show, they can watch it in less time and even pause it and come back.
Personally, I think that this is a great way for people who live fast passed lives to still be able to watch their shows and do it when they want to. It bets waiting for the re-runs to come on over the summer and then you are forced to watch it when they are played. This way you can watch the TV shows when you want to for your laptop. I know I have done this and actually enjoy this. I watch it from the comfort of my bed when I get the chance, whether it be at 10 in the morning or at 10 at night. I have even found myself going on-line to watch a TV show again, because I missed something or I was confused from when I first watched it. Overall, I think it is a great way to get viewers on to the stations web-site and they are even throwing in advertisements for sponsorships. All in all, it is a great way for stations to cater to their viewers.

  1. I agree with you 100%. It is more convenient and user-focused than watching traditional television. Users can watch shows that interest them at times that are MOST convenient and, as you stated, can pause the program and return to it at a later time. Personally I do not watch much tv, but when I got sick a few weeks back, it was nice to pick up on a show my friends have raved about, DEXTER. When I started to feel better, I wasn't concerned about how "hooked" I had become with the series because I knew I could always go back and pick up where I left off.

It does pose a threat to traditional television, however, in that it essentially replaces it. Aside from live programs such as the Oscars or professional sports broadcasts, there isn't much else to offer to keep audiences from simply tuning in on-line. Tivo may have presented a similar problem, but comes with a financial cost, devices, installation, etc. whereas the internet runs 24-7.

  2. I watch the majority of my shows online while I'm at school because here I don't have DVR. I still have to watch last week's Lost, and thanks to ABC.com I can whenever! It's actually because of ABC.com and my lack of a social life while living in Virginia that I was presented with the opportunity to watch the first three seasons of Lost in an embarrassing span of 2 weeks straight, and now I'm hooked. The only thing I see going bad in the future is that companies won't want to pay to be a advertising during commercials because people aren't watching, which is a huge waste of money.

  3. I always use the internet to watch tv shows I missed. It such a great invention! I am usually working or out when some of my favorite tv shows air so Im constantly missing them. With the help of the internet, I am able to watch them without commercials and I love it! There will be only like one or 2 15 second ads through the entire show, not bad! But is it losing TV networks money?
