What is this? Vevo...I just want to watch the video!

So you want to hear the latest music or see the video to your favorite new song? Well, what does any typically human being do? You Youtube it! But as of December, Youtube is now in partners with vevo. And now you watch music through vevo. So something that was commercial free and just played your favorite song or video, now is played with vevo. Vevo now pulls from Youtube's API system (application programming interface) and plays the music through this channel on Youtube. But old sites we were using vevo at some point, have now lost vevo. All contents were short lived and removed from the site. The 3rd party, Muziic, lost all sponsors from Goolge and vevo.
Honestly, as a Youtube daily user, I personally do not want vevo. I try to click on other videos so I do not have to watch it via vevo. A quote directly from Youtube "Content owners on YouTube can choose where they want their videos to appear, including on mobile devices, IPTVs or even on YouTube.com itself. Our goal has always been to provide content owners with the tools they need to make informed decisions about where and how their videos are viewed.” Vevo just makes things more complicated, but sometimes you simply can't avoid it. It may be annoying, but could vevo be the new Youtube?

  1. YouTube is looking for ways to profit. It doesn't matter what consumers think anymore, especially in the economy we live in today. YouTube is such a great site, its not surprising that they are looking to benefit someway from their popularity. I did a post on how YouTube is profiting off of Promoted Videos, which basically works by buying keywords on Google. With so many changes going on with YouTube and the way they are showing content, you would think they would take it easy on consumers. At least we know 9 months before any changes happen...

  2. I personally like Vevo. I think the videos come in 100 times more clear than on youtube. The only thing I do not like about Vevo is the advertisements before the video that you clicked on actually starts playing. They are necessary and no one pays attention to them. I like the fact that when you watch a video on Vevo it relates you to other videos that you will like. I know youtube does this too but they never actually got any right for me on youtube. Vevo always has at least three songs that I will play after listening to the song that I had originally chosen.

  3. I don't exactly understand the Vevo concept because now we are getting commercials now, which I personally find obnoxious. I remember the day where you would go on YouTube and search for a video and BAM! you watch it, now I see more and more YouTube videos have a 15-30 second advertisement beforehand, which is annoying. However, if I really think about it, I'm not even surprised, of course advertisements found their way there, and it was only a matter of time before a new YouTube presented itself.

  4. I find this Vevo spot annoying as well. It really stinks when a song pops in my head and I search for it, click and then have to sit through a commercial. Like I'm not watching TV and I still have to sit through it. I think it is ridiculous that commercials are popping up everywhere now even in movie theaters before the previews. I know that they are trying to advertise things but it is just really annoying to me personally.
